5 Years Earlier than Expected

This is an end to an era. I wanted to believe that this would never happen, but my three lovely children sharing a bedroom together has ended (please excuse the weeping). My husband and I estimated about the ten year mark and not at five years old going on six. Who am I kidding, in my own little world I thought they would blissfully share a room until they were eighteen. There is a lot of great bonding that goes on between eight o’clock and eight-thirty every night.

It all started when Child #1 went to Kindergarten. Now, it has nothing to do with them getting along or fighting or anything you might think. My three children actually get along quite well (which is extremely adorable. I know, but I get to be bias). Don’t get me wrong, they do argue, fight, tattle, tease and make me extremely mad sometimes. But they actually play really nicely together, which out weighs the refereeing time.

In any case, the real reason comes down to sleep. Child #1 is so exhausted from her day she just wants to go to sleep (they don’t take naps in Kindergarten) while Child #2 and Child #3 (still taking naps during the day) are excited to chit chat (this entails giggling, laughing and sometimes teasing) for awhile before they fall asleep. Child #1 has been complaining about this for awhile now, but I have simply been giving her one excuse after another (okay so I’ve been dragging my feet, but I really wanted to make sure she wanted to move out). Well, her requests were becoming more persistent so this weekend was the weekend (she was so excited I couldn’t put it off anymore).

The move involved moving Child #1’s bed into another room and moving a dresser into Child #2 and Child #3’s room. A little switching of toys and shifting of additional furniture and viola the rooms are cleaned and separated.

So bed time comes and Child #1 happily goes into her new bedroom for some peace and quiet. It doesn’t quite hit the other two until they venture into their room and their big sister isn’t there. Child #2 freaks out. She starts to moan she wants her sister in the same room with her (by the sound of the moaning, you might have thought she had died). Then Child #3 catches on and starts to moan as well. I kiss them good night and leave the room. I thought a picket line was going to form. The chanting was quite good. “We want Child #1. We want Child #1. We Want Child #1.” They were even using her nickname they have given her recently so it was even cuter than expected. Okay so it sounded more like moaning cats on a picket fence than an actual protest, but they were definitely in sync.

We’ll see how tomorrow night turns out.

Unexpected Surprise

Trampolines. I love trampolines. I spent a lot of my childhood jumping on one. Interestingly enough my nephews received a trampoline for Christmas. How cool is that? Child #1 has been jumping on it all week after school and I promised the other two that they would get to jump on it on Friday.

So we venture on over to my nephews house for an exciting evening of trampoline jumping. I was actually kind of excited too. I haven’t jumped on one since…I truly can’t remember. Anyway, the kids are having a blast on it. Everyone gets to jump in twos since five kids can be a little much (the little ones get trampled easily). After everyone has had a turn I say “it’s my turn.” Child #1 wants to jump with me first so I get in and we start jumping. I am trying to show her the value of trying to catch air on a jump (these are things every kid must know how to do). Halfway through my expert tutelage an “Oh Shit” slips out of my mouth.

Apparently gravity is stronger than my bladder muscles, I quickly ran to the bathroom (thank heavens for panty liners). Evidently having three children does a number on your bladder control. Note to thy self: Jumping is worst that running with bladder control. Oh well, back to the Kegal exercises.

Battle of the 10 pound bulge continued…

So the 10 pounds are being more stubborn than ever. Or maybe it’s just in my mind. Or maybe it is the soda I have been drinking for dinner the last two nights because we are completely out of every alternative beverage choice in my house (grocery shopping didn’t fit into the schedule this week) and I can’t drink water for dinner (I consume so much water during the day I can’t stand it by dinner time).

I’m usually hungry throughout the day and into the night. At least tea will usually suppress my appetite during work hours (That is if you like tea. I think my husband refers to it as drinking hay), but during the night its pretty rough especially when I have put restrictions during the day. I think about food constantly. When I smell, see or imagine food, it’s like I hear the bell and my salivary glands start producing. Since the no eating after 7:00 pm rule still holds, I’m usually good until about 10:00 pm at night (I know I should be sleeping at 10:00, but I have so much to read I am usually up until 11:00 or midnight). When I find myself ravenous (similar to a bear coming out of hibernation), my mind drifts off to what I could eat and not feel guilty about. Breaking my tangent, I reestablish my focus continue without getting up and eating anything. Phew (swipe of the forehead), I made it through another night.

Book Suggestions

If anyone has ever been laid off, you have to read Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster. Absolutely hilarious.

If anyone has ever tried to loose weight, you have to read Such a Pretty Fat or Why Pie is not the Answer by Jen Lancaster.

This is my kind of humor. I love sarcasm.

Bike Shorts

After taking out my brand new road bike last week, I came to the conclusion that I really need to buy a pair of bike shorts. Evidently, the seats on the road bikes aren’t very comfortable and the shocks that are on hybrid bikes are definitely there for a reason (I felt every crack and divot in the road and you know how Wisconsin roads fair after a rough winter, well my ass didn’t fair to well either), but I can really go fast on the road bike.

Of course, I digress. If you’re unfamiliar with what bike shorts are, let me explain, basically they are a pair of Lycra shorts with a pad in the, you know what. So I go to the store in search of these so called shorts. HOLY COW! Bike shorts are really expensive, $75 for a measly pair of shorts. Call the cops, its highway robbery. So I start shopping around, the best I could find was $60. At least my ass will be happy now. Yippy, I get to try them out on Saturday.
